Two new compact digital cameras from Sony and Ricoh promise the levels of performance you’d expect from the big boys.
There’s nothing like being able to slip a camera into your pocket. Sure, we all have phones that can take decent pictures, but there’s something reassuring about having a compact camera that can take the tumbles of adventure travel and still take a pretty good shot. Fortunately, two new releases promise plenty of performance in pint-sized bodies.
The newest digital sensation from Ricoh, the GR Digital IV camera builds on the success of the Digital III with enhanced quick shooting capability and image quality, making it a traveller’s best friend.
Compact yet packed with features, the GRDIV retains key elements like a fast, fixed 28mm F1.9 lens and a 10MP 1/1.7-inch CCD sensor, but there’s a new image processor, a new image stabilization system for those sharp nighttime photos, and a new hybrid auto-focus system. You can also review images on the cutting-edge three-inch WhiteMagic RGBW LCD screen.
Not to be outdone, Sony’s pint-sized RX100 VI combines a versatile Zeiss 24-200mm large aperture zoom lens with what the brand says is the world’s fastest auto-focus.
The newest addition to the Cyber-shot series, the RX100 VI offers an extensive, stabilized zoom range without the bulk. A 20.1-megapixel stacked Exmor CMOS sensor ensures fast, quality images, while the 315-point phase-detection AF promises you’ll never miss a vital shot again, especially when paired with a LCD screen with touch focusing.
