Your New Himalayan Retreat

Nestled in The Forbidden Kingdom, the gateway to Tibet, Shinta Mani Mustang offers intrepid travellers an authentic taste of the Himalayas.

The brand’s first property outside Cambodia, Shinta Mani Mustang – A Bensley Collection will boast just 29 cozy suites when it opens on the cusp of the Tibetan plateau in Nepal in May. Offering an all-inclusive, curated journey into this remarkable landscape, one rich in Buddhist faith with monasteries dotting the surrounding snow-capped peaks, the lodge’s suites take their inspiration from the traditional Tibetan home, with each featuring an open-plan bedroom combined with a living area and a separate bathroom. Floor to ceiling windows offer majestic views of iconic Nilgiri mountain.

Before it’s official opening, design genius Bill Bensley is adding his creative magic to the mountain Lodge, bringing a unique verve to a location which remains untouched.  Interiors will incorporate warm coloured fabrics and materials to reflect the rich tones of the surrounding landscape, which can be viewed from every window of the Lodge. Huge fire pits on the outdoor terrace will allow guests to admire millions of stars in the night sky in warmth as the temperatures dip.  Inside, every area will be complemented by the artwork of the late artist Robert Powell, a friend of Bill’s who drew the regions vernacular architecture in incredible detail.  In his typical upcycling style and with his sustainable mindset, Bill has used recycled materials that he has repurposed into unique new furniture.

Shinta Mani Mustang is located in Jomsom, in the Lower Mustang area and the gateway to the Forbidden Kingdom in Upper Mustang. This magical and spiritual destination has dramatic landscapes and is rich in Buddhist culture, with many monasteries and has some of the highest snow-capped peaks in the world.

Culinary options at the new retreat will include the 60-seat Nilgiri Restaurant, named after the majestic mountain it looks out onto, and a large outdoor dining patio, complete with large fire pit, where modern Nepalese and western cuisines will be served, using locally sourced and foraged produce. The Aara Bar is named after an exotic local Tibetan/Sherpa liquor and promises to be the spot for post-dinner story telling.

In addition, a Wellness Centre features two treatments suites with hot plunge poos, steam rooms, and saunas, and a menu of traditional holistic journeys created by a local 11th generation Tibetan Amchi doctor, just the ticket after days spent trekking, horse riding, rock climbing, cycling and much more, all led by experienced Bensley Adventure Guides. Guests can even take to the skies on a helicopter tour or  dine on Shinta Mani gourmet picnics, made with the freshest farm to fork ingredients.

You’ll also be able to positively contribute to the local community with Shinta Mani’s philosophy of giving back to the communities in which they operate. The Lodge will work closely with the Pasang Lhamu Foundation which was founded by the owning family after their Mother became the first Nepalese woman to blaze a trail to the summit of Mt Everest in 1993.  The Foundation is a non-profit, non-political, non-government organization with the core pillars of Education, Vocation Training, Health and Immediate Assistance.
