Desert & Delta Safaris has unveiled an exclusive new fishing package at Nxamaseri Island Lodge in Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

A new four-night Angling Adventure Package has been launched at the newly renovated Nxamaseri Island Lodge, perfect for anglers looking to hook the legendary Tiger Fish. Known as one of the fiercest predators in freshwater, this is your chance to pit your skills against a fish famous for its power and speed.

The star of the show is the Tiger Fish one of the finest and most admired game fishes, with fierce predatory habits, it is found in African freshwater and is known for its razor-sharp teeth and lightning-fast strikes. Its salmon-shaped body and daggerlike teeth make the tiger fish an exciting prey for experienced fly or lure fishers, necessitating the maximum time on the water to track and catch them (Note: All caught Tiger Fish are released in line with Desert & Delta’s strict catch and release policy).

Angling for Tiger Fish is one of a handpicked selection of specially designed mini-packages that open an amazing array of hidden gems tucked away from other travellers, where the memories of a lifetime are forged on land and sea.

Time your visit to coincide with the annual Barbel (Catfish) Run, during which millions of barbel surge through the channels, creating a feeding frenzy that lures in Tiger Fish like never before. This annual phenomenon occurs when the floodplains and smaller channels dry up, forcing smaller baitfish and insects into the larger channels. This encourages the magnificent Tiger Fish, which can reach a weight of nine kilograms, to hunt the smaller fish in the deep channels – the ideal setting for an unforgettable fly-fishing experience. It doesn’t get more exciting than this!

Day One begins with a scenic transfer to Nxamaseri Island Lodge, to meet your fishing guides. After settling into a luxury suite there is a briefing on the fishing opportunities and conditions, particularly the excitement surrounding the Barbel Run. An afternoon fishing session means getting a feel for the water and targeting the Tiger Fish. After fishing, relax with a sundowner cruise, soaking in the breathtaking Delta scenery. Dinner is a feast under the stars with local ingredients and delicious flavours.

Day Two starts with a full fishing expedition after breakfast. Follow the Barbel Run, where your guide will position you in prime locations to maximise the chances of landing a big catch.  Lunch is on the water on a sandbank or island, surrounded by the glories of the Okavango. The afternoon offers more fishing, experimenting with different techniques, lures and flies to attract the aggressive Tiger Fish.

Day Three takes guests to explore new fishing grounds in different channels, targeting specific spots known for their large Tiger Fish populations. Depending on water levels and conditions, follow the Barbel Run to witness more of the thrilling feeding behaviour that makes the area famous. Lunch follows back at the lodge, followed by downtime. Then enjoy a leisurely cruise in the late afternoon, perhaps spotting hippos, crocodiles, and an array of birdlife.

Day Four targets the Barbel Run in the morning, with your guide mapping out the best areas to catch your best Tiger Fish. Return to the lodge for a relaxing lunch. A final fishing expedition in the afternoon will put all you have learned over the past few days into practice. Finish this Epic Experience with a special sundowner cruise, reflecting on the incredible escapade. Enjoy a farewell dinner, toasting your fishing success.

Day Five is a final opportunity for a leisurely breakfast and morning at the lodge. Depending on your flight time, there might be an opportunity for a brief final fishing session or a guided nature walk. Depart with unforgettable memories and incredible fishing stories.
