South Seas Seduction

One of the South Pacific’s most indulgent private island retreats has reopened as the luxurious COMO Laucala Island.

Laucala Island, 14-square-kilometres of sun-kissed tropical bliss in Fiji, has joined the private island collection of COMO Hotels and Resorts, which also boasts coveted properties like COMO Parrot Cay and the Maldives’ COMO Maalifushi.

Home to just 25 sublime standalone residences, some of which are perched high on volcanic peaks while others are nestled beside one of the archipelago’s most beautiful beaches, COMO Laucala Island is a modern Crusoe-esque retreat that is just a 45-minute flight by resort plane from the international airport at Nadi.

Long a favorite among the world’s private jet set, who fly into the island’s own day-night strip, this breathtaking, coral-wreathed island of pristine protected mangrove forests and coconut groves, now offers travelers the elevated luxury of the COMO brand.

Constructed in natural Fijian wood in a traditional South Pacific style, the butler-served residences range from 3,000-4,000sqm and all feature private swimming pools, cathedral-esque bathrooms, and spacious living areas. Each also offers access to the island’s 18-hole David McLay Kidd-designed golf course, the island’s fleet of watercraft, which includes jet skis, sailboats, and diving launches; tennis courts, hiking, and horseback riding trails, and a newly branded COMO Shambhala Retreat wellness enclave.

In addition, guests will be spoiled for choice with the island’s array of dining experiences, which follow a farm-to-table philosophy (including curated COMO Shambhala selections) and which take ingredients from the island’s 240-hectare organic farm’s own quail hatchery, Wagyu cattle herd, and organic crops, as well as seafood sourced from local fishermen
