Adventure travel company Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions has launched a new experience, The Antarctic Loppet.
The Antarctic Loppet will be a unique cross-country ski experience held during the upcoming 2024 Antarctic season, with tentative dates scheduled in January 2025.
Cross-country skiing has a long and storied heritage in Antarctica. Explorer Roald Amundsen’s team was the first to reach the South Pole, and their skiing ability was a key element of their success. The new experience celebrates this while educating intrepid guests on this aspect of Antarctic history.
This new five-day experience boasts three events of varying distances (10K, 20K and 50K), travelling through the extraordinary scenery of the Ellsworth Mountains. The event will be open to all cross-country skiers seeking to challenge themselves. Participants will also learn about Antarctica’s ‘Heroic Era’ and be a part of modern Antarctic sporting history.
Participants will fly from Punta Arenas, Chile to Antarctica on ALE’s chartered jet and be based at ALE’s Union Glacier Camp (below).
Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions has more than 35 years of experience in land-based Antarctic adventures and logistical services. From its blue-ice runway and base camp at Union Glacier, guests can venture to the summit of Mount Vinson, fly to the South Pole, journey to an emperor penguin colony, or attempt an expedition in the spirit of early explorers.
